Jobs Update - Feb 8 2019

I really don't want to be in the business of selling job listings. I do however, want to help people find jobs. So here's the deal – there is now a "Friends of Beeler" Job offer for a free job posting for 30 days. So feel free to post up jobs. Have too many jobs to manually add them? Contact me and I'll figure something out. If you want the job posting  "featured" (shown at the top) for 60 days and for us to push it out there on social media, there would be a charge for that.  If you ever run into a problem or question posting a job, just email it to support@beeler.tech and we'll post it up. It sometimes takes us a few days to get to it. I really ...

Does your ad tech stack spark joy? No? Does it spark revenue? – That'll be a line in my opening of AdMonsters Publisher Forum in Miami.  Sign up already! What isn't sparking joy is a lack of movement on VAST 4.1. Thanks to SEPBO , we had a publisher dinner this past week to discuss overall trends in efficiency and a discussion about VAST 4.1 came up. It's clear we need to educate our own teams but more importantly look to agencies to get on board. It's also clear that those who understand the importance of moving forward on an initiative like VAST 4.1 need more support than they are getting. Let's discuss banding together on multiple fronts. You in?  ...

Is Consulting in the Future for You? Editor's note: This article and related topics are being discussed in the career development forum . Become a member to access. For those of us who work in digital media, the presence of consultants speckled throughout our workplaces is a mainstay.  We work alongside consultants to launch new system integrations, we listen to consultants give insights and recommendations on business transformation, we reduce some of our work burden when we outsource to consultants. Some of us have also found ourselves becoming consultants at one point or another in our careers.  For some, it’s an experiment; for some others, a ...

Great week last week and this one is off to a great start. Last week:  We had a product walkthrough of Ad-Juster's ProgrammaticIQ. Here is the recording . Yes, Stuart's laptop freezes halfway through and I really could have made more for the opportunity. Next time, I'll have some jokes ready.  The best part though were the questions – y'all brought it. That's what I love about this community. Thank you. This week:  I'm waking up on a Monday morning to see people signing up for RevOpEx  in London. We're closing in on 60 and the sessions are starting to come together.  For the London event, I'm working with Tom Bowman and his survey is going to be ...

One goal achieved, One goal soon to be I'm back from Jacksonville, where I helped emcee The PGA Tour Sales Support Summit, an internal event to bring multiple sales-related departments together. It was an honor and a unique experience. Yes, I emcee events all the time, but to walk into a company with some ideas on what I thought would work and watch how receptive everyone was, was really cool. It was one of my goals when I started Beeler.Tech to work on such a project and I'm excited about how well it went. Now the next goal to achieve, and it's exciting news: I'm going to be hosting a Leadership Forum and a Rev Op Exchange event in London on February 27th ...

I spoke with .msg about his newest report this weekend: Below is the summary. To see the full report, log in and go to this discussion post. Q3 OVERALL SUMMARY Huge political advertising season for many companies, especially local TV and the platforms   --   it looks more like a presidential year than a midterm year For most traditional publishers and linear TV companies advertising is flat/down except for a few exceptions like the NYT digital business CTV/OTT advertising is still very strong across many companies like Roku, TTD and many Linear TV companies --   CTV/OTT should continue to be strong for many years Traditional TV ...

As you’ve probably heard, CDPs (Customer Data Platforms) are a hot category in marketing tech at the moment. What do CDPs promise to do? At a high level, they claim to deliver the long-sought “single view of the customer.” CDPs will collect all your customer data in one place, organize it, and activate it in any channel. This is not just a marketers dream, but would also unlock incredibly powerful use cases across the organization that I won’t get too much into here.  However, as Jonathan Mendez states in his excellent series of blog posts  here , this idealistic "360-degree" view of customer data has been promised since the first CRM systems in 2000 -- ...

Version #14 of “What I Saw Happen” for Q3 2018. A focus on Advertising and Marketing -- a pithy, curated recap of the what I saw happen last quarter All the insight below are from conversations I have had, podcasts I have listened to and, every once in a while, an article I read. It only makes the list if I believe it and/or I have heard it several times.  Plus, I review throughout the quarter and edit all the time. I send this out to about 1,100 of my colleagues in the industry -- if this gets passed along to you just send me an email and I will add you to the distribution list I may have gone a little crazy with my bonus comments, ...

Today marks my ten year anniversary at AdMonsters. It's been an incredible decade and it's amazing to think how much has changed in the last decade. Realize that 10 years ago, the economy was on the verge of collapse. It wasn't the safest move to leave the security of a job at Advance Digital to take a chance on AdMonsters. I didn't have a passport, I had zero experience with public speaking and had very limited professional writing experience. I knew, however, that I would never get a chance like this again and I'd like to think I've made the most of it. Beeler.Tech is simply an extension of this past decade as I explore new ideas in consulting, training and ...

Android OS blocks Proxying of Ad Requests Summary Starting mid-May 2018 our team discovered that we were no longer able to see any ad requests our apps were making while using Charles HTTP Proxy .  The entire digital ads industry relies on Charles Proxy to validate, verify, and troubleshoot ad requests and responses received from Google DFP and other Ad suppliers. We spent time troubleshooting the issue internally and brought the issue up with our Google contacts only to learn that this was something that was released to increase the security of their ad requests.  Google’s suggested alternative is to use their Verbose Logging that is available ...

It comes with the territory: I create events and therefore must attend events. This year, however, I decided to skip DMEXCO in Germany. Doing so afforded me an opportunity to work on Beeler.Tech, AdMonsters and with my current clients. I don't regret it, as it was a very productive week. As I create events, I'm always conscious that I'm taking someone away from work. It's why I aspire to make sure they provide enough value to take you from your day job. Major Moves We have our first contributed blog post on the site.   Celia Wu will talk about going back to school for journalism . I'll be asking her questions about it in the   career ...

I owe my career in operations to the media and journalism business. To be better at what I do, a few years ago I decided to enroll in the University of Missouri’s Graduate School of Journalism after taking a few “test run” classes. Afraid that I would be the only non-journalist in my classes, it turned out that my classmates came from all facets of the media business – editorial, production and technical, business management, operations, and even folks who didn’t work in the media industry but are passionate about journalism. Meanwhile, Pew research just reported that newsroom jobs have plummeted by nearly 25% over the last decade. Translated to people, that ...

I often ask at my events why someone would want to be in ad tech, ad operations or the like. The answer is most often a love for learning new things. In a way, it's always back to school for our industry:  you'll never know what you're going to have to learn next. The constant change is why there isn't one source to go to for training or answers to pressing questions. For my part, I realize there are so many conversations that would be helpful and if we could create them and capture them, maybe we'd have time to move things forward. With that in mind, here's what's going on with Beeler.Tech and BTechNation this week: Confirmed Events September 11th online:   ...

Beeler.Tech is spinning up! I hope everyone got some time in August to spend time with family and get some vacation time in. It was a good summer for me. I got to spend a lot of time with family and really only had one trip. For me, it's nice to be able to stay close to home. It also afforded me an opportunity to work on Beeler.Tech and things are really coming together. Here are some updates and your chance to help make it happen:   Confirmed events September 6th in Caldwell, NJ:  614 Group's Digital Media Open East  - Golf Outing September 7th online:  Beeler.Tech Walkthrough Webcast Events about to be announced September ...

Recent, Related and Relevant isn't so much about the news as it is recent postings that relate to Beeler.Tech AND are relevant to the Beeler.Tech community. I posed a question in my Sovrn Community Group about OpenRTB 3.0. It sounds like a lot of work for the exchanges to make. So do publishers sit on the sidelines and wait, or can they help make 3.0 happen sooner? . I was quoted in this article on MediaLink about ads.txt:  Rob Beeler, Chairman of AdMonsters and founder of Beeler.Tech thinks once buyers start to request it, we’ll “really move the ball with ads.txt.  “TAG is requiring it,” he says. “The IAB UK gold standard requires it. Publishers ...
